They say you should write what you know.

I’ve begun some re-writes on a story that hopefully I’ll be posting on Reddit in the not too distant future. In this story I pulled from a real life experience, that being the tragedy of Jonestown and the fact that my parents at one point were invited to The Peoples Temple. If those names don’t ring a bell, well Jim Jones.

Obviously we never attended but just the fact that there was that singular chance is mind boggling to me. That’s not really a part of history that I like being so close to home. I will say that my parents were not idiots, I’ve heard recordings of some of JJ’s sermons and there’s no way my parents would have stuck around through one service.

The story isn’t about that, but it’s part of the trauma that two of the characters carry. The idea they could have been a victim. It’s like the person who gets a bad feeling and doesn’t get on the plane and then it crashes. That’s the sort of trauma they feel. They aren’t the biggest characters of the story but that fact will definitely play a role in how things go.

A “You saw this and then you fell for that” kind of thing. But even that’s not entirely it.

     Not exactly anyway.

One other thing I’ll mention, I’m doing all this writing on a Linux Bazzite box, so hopefully that distro is stable.
